In celebration of the 24th anniversary of the 1991 Local Government (LG) Code this month of October, DILG Zambales Team conducted its “Community Service and Tree Planting Activities” on October 21, 2015 at Sitio Alao, Barangay San Juan, Botolan, Zambales. Bactad thanked the local officials in the area for their warm reception to the Team in the conduct of said activities. She emphasized that the activity was an initiative and effort of all DILG Zambales personnel as a way of giving back to the community for all the blessings that have been received. Punong Barangay Monica V. Diago meanwhile, expressed her gratefulness to the Team for choosing their area as beneficiary of the said activities. She highlighted the challenges and benefits the people has achieved, including the honor of its Barangay Secretary, Ms. Jeanne May Diaz as winner of the recently concluded “Tagisan ng Talino Essay Writing Contest” which was also part of the LG Code Celebration. Games were conducted by the MLGOOs to the children in the area like “The Piso Game,” “Bring Me…,” and “The Boat is Sinking…”. Games were also conducted to day care students which brought joy and laughter to all who attended. After the games, all the children were given a bag of assorted biscuits as gift from the Team. A separate pack of assorted goods were also given to their parents through Ms. Nida B. Rafael, Tribal Chieftain of Sitio Alao.
The Team then proceeded to the nearby mountain wherein they planted mahogany, narra and eucalyptus seedlings. Each personnel planted a particular seedling with the intent of visiting the area for the next few months to check their growth and improvement. The officials of the area promised to take care of the said seedlings and monitor their growth. The said activity was finished at about 11:00 a.m.
The Greening Activity of the Team continued at the DILG Zambales Provincial Office in the afternoon, with the planting of twenty-two (22) calamansi trees that were placed in front of the office. Like the seedling planted in Botolan early in the morning, each personnel was given a particular plant to monitor and check its growth.
