The 42nd Provincial Children’s Congress was successfully held at Botolan's People Plaza today, November 20, 2024, bringing together children from the 13 municipalities of Zambales to celebrate their talents and advocate for their rights. This year’s theme, “Break the Prevalence. End the Violence: Protect Children. Create a Safe Philippines,” resonated throughout the event, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe environment for all.
The day care children from the 13 municipalities of Zambales showcased their creativity and skills through copy-and-color sessions, poem recitation contests, zumba dance performances, and singing showcases. These activities not only allowed the children to express themselves artistically but also contributed to their physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional development.
One of the key highlights of the event was an informative orientation conducted by LGOO V Jacqueline A. Calimlim, Capability Development Section Chief of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Zambales. She presented the DILG Memorandum Circular 2021-039, which outlines guidelines for child rights and protection. LGOO V Calimlim emphasized several crucial points: raising awareness about child rights and protections under the law, empowering children to become advocates for their own safety and well-being, and collaborating with Local Councils for the Protection of Children (LCPC) to establish safe environments where children can thrive. “Yung role ninyo as child representative, does not end with the Executive Order, hindi lang siya nasusulat, gawin siya into action always, not just because you’re part of the local council for the protection of children, but apply it in your-day-to day life. Don’t just attend their regular meeting, instead you participate, engage, and suggest ideas of how we can create together a better place for all of you” she added.
In addition to the performances and orientation, child representatives from various municipalities were given a platform to express their thoughts on their responsibilities as young leaders. This interactive session encouraged open dialogue, allowing children to share their ideas on advocacy and community engagement. Their insights underscored the importance of youth participation in decision-making processes that affect their lives.
The 42nd Provincial Children’s Congress not only celebrated the remarkable talents of our youth but also reinforced our collective commitment to ensuring a safe environment for children across the Philippines. The event served as a reminder that protecting our children is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration among families, communities, and government agencies.
