The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) together with its partner Civil Society Organization (CSO) officially started the Regional Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) assessment of the 13 municipalities in the Province of Zambales. The assessment began on June 15, 2023, with the objective of promoting good local governance among the local government units (LGUs).

Out of the 13 municipalities in Zambales, the municipalities of Iba, San Marcelino, San Antonio, San Felipe, Botolan, Masinloc, Candelaria, and Sta. Cruz has successfully undergone the regional assessment over the past three (3) weeks. The remaining five (5) municipalities, including the Provincial Government of Zambales, will undergo assessment until July 7, 2023.

The SGLG Regional Assessment Team (RAT) composed of LGOO VI Mildred L. Sazon, OIC-Cluster Team Leader of DILG Bataan, LGOO V Joanna Marie M. Cruz of DILG Bataan, and Ms. Catherine San Pedro of Subic Communications Emergency Response Team (CERT), gauge the municipalities' efforts in maintaining accountable, transparent, socially-protective, business-friendly, and competitive environment that prioritize citizen participation and ensure peaceful, orderly, and safe communities.

To qualify for the SGLG, LGUs need to meet the criteria in all 10 governance areas, which include Financial Administration & Sustainability, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection & Sensitivity, Health Compliance and Responsiveness, Sustainable Education, Business Friendliness & Competitiveness, Safety, Peace and Order, Environmental Management, Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture, and the Arts, and Youth Development.

The SGLG is a program established through the enactment of Republic Act No. 11292, and the DILG serves as the lead-implementing agency. It is designed to incentivize and recognize LGUs for their outstanding performance in various governance areas. The program aims to encourage LGUs to continuously improve and sustain their notable performance in pursuing the welfare of their constituents while adhering to existing laws.
