Palauig, Zambales – As part of the DILG’s mandate of providing technical assistance to the local government units in the implementation of Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), the DILG Zambales CBMS Team capacitated the Barangay Secretaries, Barangay Health Workers, and Barangay Nutrition Scholars on the use of CBMS Data in Barangay Development Planning held on May 16 - 18, 2019 at Senior Citizen's Hall, Palauig, Zambales.

During the CBMS Module III Training, series of discussions and writeshops were facilitated by the team to expand the knowledge of the participants in preparing and updating the content of the Barangay Development Plan. LGOO VI Sheryl Ann Q. Dungca discussed how important the CBMS data in local planning process is and how it helps in scaling up poverty reduction. She said that by using reliable and disaggregated data, the local planners and decision makers can come up with evidence-based and more effective policy interventions. LGOO VI Jonnel B. Edillor explained the use of the CBMS data on identifying development problems at the local level especially in the Barangay. LGOO V Nedricks P. Canlas discussed the basics of Barangay Development Planning, which explained the “Why, Who, What, and How” of the planning process.

The Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) is a diagnostic tool to assess poverty in the barangay, municipal, city, and provincial level. It provides policymakers and program implementers with a good information base for tracking the impacts of various economic reforms and policy shocks on the vulnerable groups in the society.
