In celebration of the Local Government Month this October, DILG Iba launched its newest project dubbed as Kalamo Nin Barangay as part of its mandate in providing capacity development interventions to the barangays of Iba.
Kalamo nin Barangay, a Sambal phrase that literally translates to “partner of barangay”, is premised from the word Kalamo or partner that aptly describes how barangays are primary movers in pursuing grassroots development and excellence in local governance. In order to do this, there is a need to empower and capacitate barangay officials by providing technical assistance and skills enhancement for their day-to-day operations, hence, its full title KAhusayn Linangin, Abilidad MapalagO ng Barangay. This will feature a series of trainings, discussions, and coaching sessions to help barangays optimize their delivery of services to the public. This will be led by DILG Iba in coordination with various national and local government offices that will run throughout the year.
This project has already started in September through an interfacing with barangays led by MLGOO Lianne Muñoz where she conducted dialogue and coaching sessions with the members of the Barangay Council, explained their performance in the recently conducted Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB) assessment, and provided insights on how to better their performance.
Aside from this, there are also several trainings and seminars in the pipeline for barangay officials that will aim to re-orient them on various barangay functions and operations such as barangay planning, peacekeeping, handling of cases involving women and children, and environmental protection, among others.
