In observance of Rabies Awareness Month this March 2025, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), in coordination with the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI), urges all Local Government Units (LGUs) to actively participate in nationwide efforts to eliminate rabies and promote responsible pet ownership.
LGUs are encouraged to implement comprehensive initiatives, including mass anti-rabies vaccination drives to achieve 100% coverage of the local dog population, spaying and neutering programs to control stray animal populations, and intensified public awareness campaigns through community networks, educational materials, and advocacy activities.
Additionally, all LGUs are advised to display official streamers bearing this year’s theme, ‘Rabies-free na Pusa’t Aso, Kaligtasan ng Pamilyang Pilipino,’ along with their chosen call-to-action message.
Through these collective efforts, we aim to safeguard public health, protect families from the threat of rabies, and work towards a rabies-free Philippines. Let us all take responsibility in ensuring the safety of our communities by promoting vaccination, pet registration, and responsible pet ownership.
