In recognition of its exemplary performance in the 2024 Fisheries Compliance Audit (FishCA), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region III awarded the Municipality of Samal, Bataan with a check amounting to ₱1,000,000 during the LGU’s flag-raising ceremony on April 7, 2025.

The awarding was led by DILG Region III Monitoring and Evaluation Division (MED) Chief Lerrie Hernandez, who personally turned over the check to Hon. Mayor Alexander Acuzar. The incentive is intended to support the municipality’s environmental programs and projects specifically renovation and improvement of their dilapidated fish landing structure.

DILG Bataan Provincial Director Belina T. Herman, CESO V, lauded the LGU for its consistent commitment to environmental governance and adherence to the Philippine Fisheries Code—key factors in earning the top spot in the FishCA assessment.

Also present during the ceremony were Cluster Team Leader Cristy Blanco, MLGOO Haidee Balicolon, LGOO V Mark Angelo Pumares, and ADA VI Joseph Castro, whose support and coordination contributed to the successful activity.

FishCA, implemented under the Manila Bay Clean-Up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Program (MBUCRPP), evaluates LGUs’ adherence to sustainable fisheries management and aims to promote accountability in coastal resource protection efforts.
