Department of the Interior and Local Government Pampanga Director Myrvi Apostol-Fabia extols the commitment of the senior citizens to participate in the Barangay Showcase Assembly held at Babo Sacan, Porac last March 18, 2016.
PD Fabia said in her speech that the partaking of the senior citizens in this relevant event is a beacon of real citizen-participation in governance that the Filipino people aim for.
“Nakatutuwa at nakakataba po ng puso na makita ang mga mahal po nating senior citizens, sina lolo at lola, na nakaupo po mismo dito sa harap, despite sa kanilang edad, para makiisa sa barangay assembly at makinig sa report ni Kapitan sa mga ginawang proyekto ng ating barangay. Ang kanilang pakikiisa at partisipasyon ay tanda ng paniniwala na malaki ang maiaambag ng bawat isang mamamayan sa pamamahala sa bayan,” she said.
A mass of 200 participants, most of whom were senior citizens, partook on the event which aims to establish a free and interactive discussion on the issues, problems, and concerns faced by the barangay and its constituents, and as well as to inform them on the programs, activities and projects implemented in their locality.
Highlight of the assembly showcased the Barangay Development Plan subject for implementation through the Barangay Bottom-Up Budgeting (BBuB) introduced by the current administration through the Department.
Town Councilor Mark Valencia remarked that the BBuB, which will give 1Million Pesos to chosen barangays, shows that budgeting will not only rely on the barangay governance, but also with the decision and participation of ordinary citizens without the worry of “palakasan” or network influences.
Barangay Babo Sacan of the Municipality of Porac was chosen by the Department of the Interior and Local Government Pampanga as the province’s showcase barangay assembly. The Barangay Assembly Day is mandated to be observed by all 505 barangays in the Province, twice a year.
