Pushing towards an inclusive and evidence-based planning, the local government unit of Samal has completed its implementation of the Community-Based Monitoring System. A ceremony to officially turn over the collected CBMS data was held on May 4, 2023 at the Municipal Hall, Samal, Bataan.

Said activity was witnessed by DILG Provincial Director Belina T. Herman, CESO V, together with DILG Bataan CDS Chief Joanna Marie M. Cruz, and DILG Region III LDPSP Section Chief Rainier Collado.

In her message, PD Herman congratulated the LGU on another milestone in local governance. She emphasized the importance of the CBMS data specifically in the local planning process and how the data will help the LGU to accurately determine current issues, formulation of evidence-based and responsive programs and in identification of target beneficiaries.

Also present in the activity is Deputy National Statistician Minerva Eloisa P. Esquivias and other high-ranking members of the Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA) who led the official turn over of the CBMS data. The activity also served as a venue to present the highlights of the CBMS results and an opportunity to discuss future plans and program of the LGU to utilize the data. A Memorandum of Agreement between the PSA, DICT and LGU officials was also signed afterwards.

The CBMS is a diagnostic tool used for the formulation and implementation of poverty alleviation and development programs which are specific, targeted, and responsive to the basic needs of the community. The municipality of Samal, Bataan is one identified pilot LGU CBMS implementors in 2021.
