The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Bataan participated in the 2024 Pawikan Festival on December 7, 2024, at the Pawikan Conservation Center in Barangay Nagbalayong, Morong, Bataan.
With the theme “Kabataan: Kabalikat sa Pag-aalaga ng Pawikan,” the festival highlighted the vital role of the youth in marine conservation, particularly in protecting endangered sea turtles. The event kicked off with a Walk for a Cause, followed by a Thanksgiving Mass, Ceremonial Release of Pawikan Hatchlings symbolizing hope for their continued survival, and Street Dance Competition with performances inspired by marine conservation themes.
Leading DILG Bataan’s participation were Provincial Director Belina T. Herman, CESO V, and LGOO VI Laverne C. Gonzales, Jr., the MLGOO of Morong, demonstrating the department’s active role in fostering conservation initiatives.
The event reflected DILG Bataan’s commitment to environmental protection and community involvement. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration among government agencies, local government units, and youth in ensuring the survival of pawikans. The festival not only celebrated the province’s rich natural heritage but also inspired stronger commitments toward sustainable practices and the protection of Bataan’s biodiversity for future generations.
