"Tayo ang bida ngayon."
This was the resounding message from Hon. Romeo Austria, President of the Liga ng mga Barangay - Bataan Chapter, as local officials across the province gathered for DILG Bataan's Husay Barangay 2024 event held at the Tourism Pavilion on October 10, 2024.
The activity, held in conjunction with the Local Government Day observance, was attended by around 400 participants, including Punong Barangays, their secretaries, and treasurers. Key officials in attendance included DILG Assistant Regional Director Jay Timbreza, Governor Joet Garcia, Vice Governor Cris Garcia, Congressman Jett Nisay, staff of district representatives, and several mayors.
A highlight of the event was the recognition ceremony for the FY 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB) national awardees and the provincial winners in the Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Award (LTIA) and Barangay Environmental Compliance Audit (BECA). The best implementers of the Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas components, including the Barangay Road Clearing Operations (BaRCO), Barangay at Kalinisan Day (BarKaDa), and Halina't Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG) sa Barangay Project, were also honored.
"Marami na po kayong nagawa para sa pag-unlad ng inyong mga barangay at ng ating lalawigan. Ang inyong kontribusyon ay hindi lang simpleng tungkulin, ito ay nagiging inspirasyon ng komunidad," said DILG Bataan Provincial Director Belina Herman, CESO V, as she encouraged the attendees to maintain unity and ensure the stability and excellence of local governments, regardless of changes in the national government.
Reflecting on the event's significance, Ms. Maricel Florentino, a barangay secretary, highlighted that the gathering allowed people to better appreciate the hard work involved in managing a barangay. She expressed gratitude to DILG Bataan and the Provincial Government of Bataan for organizing such an event to recognize the efforts of barangay officials.
The event also featured a ceremonial signing of the pledge of commitment to the Buhay Ingatan, Droga'y Ayawan (BIDA) Program and the inauguration of the provincial government’s project funded under the FY 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance Incentive Fund (SGLGIF).
Husay Barangay, an initiative of DILG Bataan aimed at recognizing outstanding barangays in the province, was first launched in 2020. The 2024 event marks its second installment, with plans to make it an annual tradition in collaboration with the provincial government.
