On September 19, 2024, DILG Bataan Provincial Office hosted a refreshing and insightful event, "Nurturing Equality: A Culinary and Film Journey for Gender Empowerment." The activity brought gender awareness to the table—literally—with an exciting mix of cooking, film screenings, and candid discussions.

Kicking off the event, Provincial Director Belina T. Herman, CESO V, reminded everyone that certain tasks—like cooking—should not be labeled as "for men" or "for women." She emphasized that there is no reason why cooking cannot be for everyone. Ultimately, the culinary theme served as a perfect metaphor for equality, demonstrating that in the kitchen, and in life, everyone has a role to play.

Afterwards, participants rolled up their sleeves and got creative with the preparation and cooking of apple cheese rolls and cheese waffles, guided by the team’s resident cooking mom, ENGR II Jean Margarette Dimaano. The session challenged everyone to break away from traditional stereotypes and provided a fun experience for those who don’t usually spend time in the kitchen. As a result, this hands-on experience had everyone mixing, flipping, and sharing the joys of working and eating together.

Following the culinary fun, the event transitioned into a film screening, complete with french fries, hot chocolate, and coffee. While enjoying the snacks, the team watched a TED Talk on gender inclusivity, followed by a heartwarming Disney short film, both thoughtfully chosen by activity in-charge LGOO II Aleira Eunice Taguines. The films sparked lively discussions on breaking down gender barriers, with everyone sharing insights over their snacks and warm drinks.

To wrap things up, CTL Cristy Blanco shared that these exciting initiatives to promote gender equality will not stop here. She noted that the team has plenty more planned activities in the weeks ahead to keep these important conversations going.

With this activity, DILG Bataan reaffirmed its commitment to a workplace that is inclusive, empowered, and ready to challenge old norms—one apple cheese roll at a time.
