This past week has been a crucial period for the local government units of Bataan, with the municipalities of Abucay and Mariveles undergoing national validation for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) on September 11-12, 2024.
To strengthen their bid for a back to back SGLG awards, elected officials and local functionaries from both towns participated in comprehensive interviews with the validators from Region VIII (Eastern Visayas), including Leyte Cluster Head Joy Frances Monsanto and Biliran Program Manager Blessie De Leon, who conducted a thorough assessment of each LGU's performance across 10 key governance areas. During the exit conference, the LGU officials and personnel expressed optimism after receiving positive feedback from the validators.
Accompanying the validation team were DILG Bataan Provincial Director Belina Herman, CESO V, Abucay MLGOO Allan Don Malonzo, Mariveles MLGOO Ma. Jasmin Bartolo, Program Manager Danilyn Peña, CDS Chief Mark Angelo Pumares, and LGOO II Vangie Rodriguez.
In addition to Abucay and Mariveles, 10 other Bataan LGUs—Bagac, City of Balanga, Dinalupihan, Hermosa, Morong, Orani, Orion, Pilar, Samal, and the Provincial Government of Bataan—have also been endorsed for national validation. It is noteworthy, though, that these 10 LGUs, having consistently passed the SGLG for more than two consecutive years, were no longer visited by the validators.
Now that the months-long series of assessments, table validations, and site visits is complete, all that is left for the LGUs is to wait for the official results to be issued by the Council on Good Local Governance through the Bureau of Local Government Supervision.
