In a bid to ensure the sustainable handling of fisheries resources, the Manila Bay Regional Validation Team composed of representatives from DILG, DENR, BFAR and a CSO partner recently spearheaded a comprehensive Fisheries Compliance Audit (FishCA) across 10 local government units (LGUs) in Bataan from May 27 to 31, 2024.
The audit served as a vital assessment tool designed to systematically monitor and evaluate the compliance of coastal LGUs with the pertinent provisions outlined in the Philippine Fisheries Code.
As part of the process, LGUs that demonstrated strong performance and achieved favorable scores in the final assessment administered by the regional validation team will receive cash incentives and will advance to the national level evaluation.
The FishCA initiative underscores the government's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of marine ecosystems and promoting the sustainable utilization of fisheries resources.
