To support the ongoing efforts to keep the Province of Bataan drug-cleared, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Bataan, in collaboration with the Department of Health - Treatment and Rehabilitation Center Bataan, and the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Bataan Chapter, organized a Training on Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) from May 27 to 29, 2024, at the Subic Bay Peninsular Hotel, SBFZ.
In her message, Dir. Belina T. Herman, CESO V, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between national agencies and local government units in addressing drug use and its related problems.
Likewise, Dr. Elizabeth P. Serrano, Chief of DOH-DTRC Bataan, looks forward to more empowered local government units that will become the center in rehabilitating individuals who use drugs.
The three-day training, composed of resource speakers and facilitators from DOH Region III, DOH-DTRC Bataan and DILG, covered four modules that detailed the essential steps for effective screening, brief intervention, and the appropriate referral process.
Health personnel and social workers from local government units of Bataan engaged in dynamic sessions that included lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on exercises, all designed to empower them with the tools needed to implement SBIRT protocols within their communities.
The activity aims to capacitate the local functionaries in Bataan with SBIRT skills necessary for early intervention, which can prevent negative health outcomes and enhance overall community health.
SBIRT is an evidence-based approach that systematically identifies individuals engaging in risky substance use.
