The DILG Region III through the Manila Bay Program Management Team in coordination with the Environmental Management Bureau, the Department of Health and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, conducted a Webinar on Healthcare Waste Management and Better Hygiene and Sanitation to combat COVID-19 Pandemic on March 17-18, 2021.

 The Department of Health presented the stratification of major and minor health care wastes and its effect on the environment if not properly managed and disposed. Emphasis was also placed for strategies for waste minimization and its increase in input efficiency.

Likewise, the Environmental Management Bureau introduced Republic Act No. 6969 or an act to Control Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes, providing penalties for violations thereof, and for other purposes. They also discussed the proper procedures and requirements on treatment and disposal of healthcare wastes.

Additionally, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources presented the daily waste collection of Estero Rangers within the Manila Bay area. Highlight was placed on the increase of healthcare wastes collected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lastly, the DILG reminded the participants on the submission of monitoring reports relative to the Guidelines on the Management of COVID-19 Healthcare Wastes.

The activity was participated by Local Sangguniang Pangbayan/Panglungsod (Chairman on Environment), Municipal/City Health Officers, Pollution Control Officers, Municipal/City Environment and Natural Resources Officers and Municipal/City Local Government Operation Officers, via Zoom Platform.
