Sto. Tomas, Pampanga - The Municipality of Sto. Tomas proudly inaugurated the construction of concrete slope protection with sheet piles along the riverbank of Sto. Tomas River on July 13, 2023.
Located in Barangay Poblacion, Sto. Tomas, Pampanga, the area has long experienced numerous flooding challenges brought about by heavy rains. Thus, the Municipality of Sto. Tomas initiated this project through the Seal of Good Local Governance Incentive Funds (SGLG-IF) to improve flood resilience and ensure the safety of all residents.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by esteemed guests, including Municipal Mayor John Sambo and other local functionaries, DILG Region III Assistant Regional Director ARD Jay E. Timbreza together with DILG Pampanga Provincial Director Myra B. Moral-Soriano and other DILG personnel.
Dir. Soriano expressed her deep appreciation for the outstanding implementation of the project by the local government unit as it has ranked second in Pampanga, 11th in Central Luzon, and 12th nationwide in terms of completion, highlighting its significance on a larger scale.
"Kami po ay natutuwa, 10 areas po ang SGLG at napili ninyo ay yung sa Disaster Management, Disaster Risk Reduction and Resiliency napapanahon po dahil maulan ngayon. Syempre isa po sa adaptation and strategies para ma-ensure natin na ang mga Thomasian ay ligtas sila sa baha o anomang disaster," she said.
Furthermore, PD Soriano commended Mayor John Sambo for his exemplary governance and expressed her hope that he continues such practices for the betterment of the municipality.
The newly constructed infrastructure stands as a manifestation of the Municipality's commitment in achieving disaster resilience and secured environment for all.
