City of San Fernando, Pampanga--Outstanding barangays in Central Luzon were given recognition at DILG Central Luzon's Local Government Celebration dubbed as Pagmaya: Pagkilala sa mga Mahuhusay na Barangay ng Gitnang Luzon on October 10 at SM City Telabastagan, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

 The awarding ceremony, conducted on October 10, also marks DILG Central Luzon's celebration of Local Government Day as it rightfully recognized top-performing barangays of the 2023 Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards and 2023 Barangay Environmental Compliance Audit. Director Debie Torres of the Bureau of Local Government Supervision graced the event as keynote speaker where she acknowledged the vital role of the smallest unit in our country as building blocks of local communities. Regional Director Atty. Anthony C. Nuyda, on the other hand, lauded the stories of accomplishments of the exemplar barangays of Central Luzon in going above and beyond in performing their duties in public service.

Among the awards given were the regional top-performers of the 2023 Barangay Environmental Compliance Audit and the 2022 Lupon Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards who exhibited outstanding performance in the implementation of solid waste management within their locality and the exemplar implementation of the Katarungang Pambarangay, respectively.

The ceremony also served as the venue for the launching of the landmark information, education and communication initiative of DILG Central Luzon designed for barangays namely, the Enhancement of Barangay Solid Waste Management Manual. The manual is the first of its kind in the country that was developed to capacitate barangays in efficient solid waste management programs and practices and is targeted to be distributed to over 2000 barangays in the region.

Lastly, the fourth installment of DILG Central Luzon's annual magazine, Baybayin, was also launched during the same activity where the best practices of barangays in environmental management will be featured.

DILG Central Luzon remains steadfast in its commitment to capacitate local government units towards being environment-protective, climate-change adaptive and disaster-resilient LGUs in the region.
