Aurora Youth Leaders, headed by Aurora SK Provincial Federation President Jovene Mike Alpuerto, hone their leadership skills and capacitate their decision-making capabilities as they participate in the first Aurora Local Youth Assembly, on July 22, 2023 at the Pacific Waves Resort, Sabang, Baler, Aurora.

In support to this program, DILG Aurora, represented by LGOO VI Florenz Zaira B. Buenconsejo and LGOO II Gerald Philip DC Esteves graced the activity, and delivered messages of support on behalf of OIC PD Ener P. Cambronero, CESE.

In her message, LGOO VI Buenconsejo emphasized the power and voice of the youth as they dubbed as our nation's hope. "Sabi nila, many are leaders, most just need proper guidance. With the advancement of technology and vast access to information, minsan instead na mahanap ang tamang direction, ay naliligaw tayo. Although it is inevitable, it doesn't mean na it's unchangeable, kailangan lang natin mahanap kung ano ang passion at motivation natin. Ang DILG po, bilang isa sa mga mandated National Government Agencies to provide avenues for youth participation, is eager to encourage you to actively engage and to be excellent and steady partners in ensuring good local governance and development. With this, the DILG Aurora expresses its full support to this endeavor. Kasama po ninyo ang DILG sa paglinang ng kakayahan ng mga kabataan upang maging Matino, Mahusay at Maaasahang bahagi ng lipunan – dahil kayo ang mga susunod na leaders ng ating bayan.", she said.

Local Youth Assembly (LYA) is a project of Youth Leadership for Democracy (YouthLedPH), a five-year program run by The Asia Foundation with assistance from the US Agency for International Development. PHLEAD powers LYA Central and Northern Luzon in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Aurora, PESCAYDO, SK Aurora, AYDC, and Sikat-Baler.

It is a venture that will establish a secure and welcoming environment where young leaders from various backgrounds can interact, discuss urgent issues and challenges faced by their communities, and work together to develop workable solutions to address the challenges that they face within their own communities. The goal of LYAs is to give youth leaders the tools and knowledge they need to translate their vision into creative activities while fostering a culture of cooperation and inclusivity.
