As COVID-19 continues to infect thousands of Filipinos daily, effective contact tracing remains as one of the key public health tools to stop the chain of transmission. In the series of NTF Response Cluster Meetings, the Contact Tracing Czar manifested that the LGUs are somewhat confused in terms of contact tracing the 2nd and 3rd generation of close contacts and continue to stick only with the 1st generation contacts.

With this, DILG Region 3, through the Local Government Capability Division, spearheaded two batches of Regional Roll-out on Enhancing COVID-19 Tracing Work: Advanced Guide for Local Government and Contact Tracers on June 28 and 30, 2021 via Zoom Cloud Meetings Application.

Said activity provided new strategies and approaches to enhance contact tracing work at the community level that will address the increasing trend of COVID-19 cases and the scaling-up of the country's contact tracing efforts. Speakers from the Department of Health (DOH) Region 3 and Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP CIDG) presented topics including an overview of emergency health responses, elements and associated risks of COVID 19, analyzing contact tracing tools, and cognitive interviewing technique.

In total, almost 2,000 DILG-hired and LGU contact tracers were further capacitated on their roles and responsibilities. Indeed, DILG Region 3 remains committed to strengthen its efforts as part of the government's campaign against the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 in the region.
