With the goal of empowering barangay officials, the conduct of the Barangay Newly-Elected Officials (BNEO) Towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent (GREAT) Barangays Program finally concludes in the Province of Aurora on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.


Commencing on February 8, 2024 in Dinalungan, Aurora, the series of BNEO activities were spearheaded by DILG Aurora Field Offices in partnership with their respective Liga ng mga Barangay Municipal Chapters.
The said undertaking will prepare the newly elected barangay officials to meet the various leadership challenges at the barangay level and enable them to fulfill their duties and functions and actively contribute to the development of their localities.
With resource speakers coming from the DILG Field Officers and LGU Functionaries, the course covered the following topics:
????The Basics of Republic Act No. 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991
????The Barangay Development Planning (BDP) and Capacity Development Agenda
????The Barangay Budget
????Participation in Governance through Barangay-Based Institutions (BBIs) and Volunteerism
????DILG’s Programs, Projects and Activities (PPAs) and activities for Barangays
????Public Ethics and Accountability
????The Barangay Agenda for Governance and Development (B-AGAD)
Also included as special topics in some LGUs are:
????GAD Planning and Budgeting
????Local Legislation
????Barangay Accounting Rules and Regulations
????Anti-VAWC Act
Recognizing the importance of each training session in enhancing governance practices, more than 1,500 Barangay Officials actively participated and have successfully finished the BNEO course.
With its goal to capacitate and nurture LGUS, the Department remains committed to delivering high-quality capability development interventions, fostering exemplary barangays that are responsive to the needs of the citizenry.
