The DILG Zambales joined the thousands of volunteers during the observance of the 2017 International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC) Day on September 16, 2017, the largest gathering of volunteers worldwide which aims to reduce the impacts of marine debris that contribute to climate change and biodiversity loss.
The event was supported by Executive Order No. 42 issued by Governor Amor D. Deloso with the title “Establishing the 3rd Saturday of the month of September of every year as Zambales Coastal Clean-Up Day and Dedicating the 16th day of September 2017 for the Launching of Zambalinis”.
Participants and volunteers led by Governor Deloso together with the government officials and employees from the national, provincial, municipal and barangays, students from private and public schools including colleges and universities, CSO’s, NGO’s and beach owners trooped their respective clean-up sites to clean and remove all kinds of trash found along the seashores, coastlines, rivers, creeks, drainages and canals in the entire Province of Zambales.
Numerous sacks of garbage and trash containing non-biodegradable and other materials such as plastics, glass and metals were collected and recorded on the ICC data cards provided to the participants. All information, issues and concerns gathered during the said clean-up will be used in helping our lawmakers formulate policies and raise awareness to the worsening environmental problem that we encountered nowadays.
