Iba, Zambales. On August 8, 2017, LGU Officials led by Honorable Mayor Jun Rundstedt C. Ebdane and Vice Mayor Irenea Maniquiz-Biñan and the people of Iba, Zambales, joined the forty nine (49) other LGUs in the simultaneous lighting of the ASEAN Lanterns. With the theme: “Under One Light, We are One ASEAN”, the activity symbolizes ASEAN’s important role as the light that guides the path of the ASEAN Member countries.
The ASEAN National Organizing Committee composed of the National Government Agencies together with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), selected Iba alongside 49 other LGUs mainly because of its location. The West Philippine Sea is one of the major concerns being tackled by the ASEAN and with the municipality of Iba being one of the likely affected LGUs; the ASEAN hope to forge partnership in achieving their priorities.
With around two hundred people composed of Sangguniang Bayan Members, Department Heads, Municipal employees, residents, local media and other stakeholders witnessing the historical event, the activity also became a venue for the presentation of the accomplishments of the LGU Officials for the past year.
“In achieving our vision, we want this government to be inclusive and innovative, to be resilient in order to adapt to the development and changes we want to achieve. We are sharing this Landmark Lighting to all of you as this is a milestone in the history of our municipality. Out of the hundreds of LGUs in the country, we were chosen to take part in the ASEAN’s golden anniversary. Let us continue to be partners for change”, said Mayor Ebdane in his message.
Just like the ASEAN, the Municipality of Iba, puts premium to the people, that’s why LGU Officials and functionaries strive to give effective and efficient basic service delivery to the people and give the Ibanians the quality service they truly deserve a peaceful and safe community who protects not only the people as well as its natural resources.
