As a pilot LGU, DILG Angeles City launched the Ugnayan ng Barangay at Simbahan (UBAS) held on December 2, 2014 at Holy Rosary Parish Hall, Angeles City. The activity aimed to have a strategic partnership between the Barangays and parishes to pool resources and synchronize efforts in the advocacy of good governance and efficient delivery of services to people for the attainment of community development. A total of 130 participants attended the said activity which comprised of Inter-Faith Organizations, Punong Barangays, Convenor’s Group, and the Parish Pastoral Council of Angeles City.
The event started with Ecumenical Prayer facilitated by Jose M. Briones, President of the Philippines Angeles Stake, Rev. Helen M. Cunanan, Aldergate Pastor, Unites Methodist Church, Carlos Hipolito, Calvary Temple, Rev. Mariano Mallari, Parochial Vical, Rev. Maria Jesusa E. Munoz, Chairwoman, Association of United Churches of Angeles.
Angeles City Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Jericho Aguas delivered an Opening Remarks followed by an Audio-Visual Presentation on UBAS and message from Dir. Leocadio T. Trovela of NBOO- DILG Central Office.
The three members of the convenor’s group Bishop Pablo Virgilio S. David, Auxiliary Bishop of San Fernando, Pampanga, Hon. Edmund R. Abesamis, National Liga President, and RD Florida M. Dijan, Regional Director of DILG R-3 shared their messages. They encouraged the active participation of the Churches and the Barangays in the delivery of services in the community. They also mentioned that the DILG has a Grassroots Participatory Planning Project wherein the involvements of the CSOs were necessary to plan programs and projects to uplift the living condition of the society.
Highlights of the activity were the Signing of Memorandum of Agreement wherein all members of the convenor’s group extended their full support to the movement, Unveiling of the UBAS Tripartite partnership, and the handover of the GPPP 2013.
