The DILG-AC conducted Orientation on the Indicators of the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays at the on May 29 at the Brgy. Balibago Conference Room, Angeles City to prepare the barangay officials on the annual SGLGB assessment.
“SGLGB is the most prestigious award that the barangay may receive from the DILG,” said DILG-City Director Yvette Cosio in her message. “It is not easy to achieve the Seal, but this will also serve as your guide to practice good governance and ensure the delivery of the basic services to the public. I urge every barangay to take this challenge and pass the SGLG.”
To prepare the barangay officials for the governance assessment, the DILG-AC discussed the potential performance indicators of the 2023 SGLGB. The barangays need to pass the following core governance areas: Financial Administration and Sustainability, Disaster Preparedness, Safety, Peace and Order. Additionally, they should meet at least one of the following essential governance areas: Social Protection and Sensitivity, Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, and Environmental Management. The DILG shall give distinction to the barangays that have performed the said pillars of meaningful local autonomy and development.
The activity was in line with DILG-AC’s CAPACIT-8. The office’s capability development program focuses on enhancing the capacity of barangay officials in order for them to effectively uplift the following areas of local governance: 1. Disaster Risk Reduction and Management; 2. Accountability and Transparency; 3. Peace and Order; 4. Social Protection and Sensitivity; 5. Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness; 6. Environmental Management; 7. Information and Technology; and 8. People’s Participation.
“SGLGB is indeed a challenge for all the barangays officials. We will try our best to pass the SGLGB and promote good governance,” said Amsic Punong Barangay Gerom P. Costales.
