With the theme “Barangay: Kaagapay sa Panahon ng Kalamidad at sa Patuloy na Pag-unlad”, topics on disaster preparedness, environmental compliance, and functionality of the following Barangay-Based Institutions (BBIs): Barangay Solid Waste Management Committee (BSWMC), Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC), Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC), Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC), Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC), and Barangay Development Council (BDC), and the Lupong Tagapamaya were discussed by the DILG to further enhance the capacities of barangays. These topics were highlighted accordingly as part of the indicators of the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB). Also, during the opening program, DILG Region 3 Assistant Regional Director Jay Timbreza commended the barangay officials for their courage and sacrifices as frontliners during the COVID-19 pandemic.
DILG Usec. Martin Diño, Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs, guest speaker of the activity, contentedly expressed his gratitude for the strong support of the barangays to the programs and activities of the department on Manila Bay rehabilitation and preservation, road clearing, anti-drug abuse campaign, and COVID-19 response, among others. Usec. Diño further encouraged the barangay officials to continue their efforts to observe and sustain the peace and order, and development programs in their respective jurisdictions amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
