The Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (PSWMB) convened its Joint 2nd and 3rd Quarter Meeting on July 30, 2019 at the Sangguniang Bayan Gallery Hall, Municipal Hall of its host LGU - Orani, Bataan.

DILG, as one of the members of the board, presented the compliance rate of Bataan LGUs and their constituent barangays with regards to the DILG Memorandum Circular 2019-09 or the Observance of the Weekly Conduct of Clean-up Drive Relative to the Manila Bay Clean-up, Rehabilitation and Preservation Program, along with various issuances from the Department regarding the said weekly clean-up drive.

Other matters discussed during the meeting were status updates from Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region III and Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) concerning solid waste management and One Less Basura Project, respectively.

"No to single-use plastic" campaign was also given light in the said meeting gaining attention from the departments, LGUs, stakeholders and academe who participated in the activity. Involvement, cost-benefit analysis and weighing of alternatives were seen as essential elements towards the achievement of the advocacy.

Board members, and other participants, witnessed Orani's notable initiatives and practices in solid waste management including the materials recovery facility (MRF) of Barangays Mulawin and Paraiso and the "ecobricks" made from shredded waste and crushed bottles situated along the Orani Public Market. Physical demonstration of the eco-brick making process and how the machineries at the Municipal MRF function served as both the highlight and finale of the benchmarking activity.

As Mayor Efren Pascual, Jr. puts it, "Ang kalaban ng bawat isa ay ang nakasanayan." And as we share the responsibility to our people, "may pupuntahan ang mga bagay na ating pinagtatrabahuhan."
