To ensure that the local fishery resources are managed in a responsible and sustainable manner, the DILG Manila Bay Regional Validation Team has successfully conducted the yearly Fisheries Compliance Audit (FishCA) to the 10 coastal LGUs of Bataan from March 22 to April 3, 2023.

The said audit aimed to evaluate the compliance of Balanga City and nine other coastal municipalities with the provisions of the Philippine Fisheries Code.
During the month-long audit process, the team conducted table assessment and on-site inspection, validated the submitted documents, inspected post-harvest facilities, and assessed the LGUs' implementation of fisheries laws and related policies.

The LGUs that performed well and received a high score on the final assessment of the regional validation team will be awarded with cash incentives and will advance to the national level validation. During last year's audit saw the City of Balanga and Pilar emerged as the national and regional winners.

Providing rewards and incentives to LGUs that display excellence in various facets of local governance is part of the Department's mandate. Through the FishCA, the DILG hopes to encourage coastal LGUs to uphold their responsibilities in the proper fishery resource management that is crucial not only for food security but also for economic sustainability.
