GUAGUA- All coming together for the biggest battle yet for the rehabilitation of Manila Bay, over 700 volunteers from various agencies, organizations, and civilians gathered to take part in the kick off ceremony and clean-up activity for the Launching of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation, January 27 at Guagua River, Sta. Filomena, Guagua.

Dubbed as the "Battle for Manila Bay", the activity is also conducted simultaneously in NCR, Regions IV-A and III to jumpstart the move to clean-up and bring back the former glory of the historic bay.

In Guagua, the local officials headed by Mayor Dante Torres led the clean-up activity and enjoined everyone to be part of this meaningful undertaking. He added that their LGU already has initiatives in ensuring that the river and other tributaries are regularly cleaned and monitored.

The kick-off activity started with a solidarity walk, followed by a simultaneous pledge of commitment graced by heads of agencies including DILG PD Myrvia Fabia, PNP PD PSSupt Jean Fajardo, Provincial Fire Marshall FSupt Myra Feliciano, Pampanga ENRO Laudemir Salac, and PG ENRO Arthur Punsalan. An actual clean-up of the Guagua river and Mangrove planting also ensued.

Likewise, all LGUs in Pampanga participated in this ceremony by conducting clean-up activities in their respective localities.

Prior to this, DILG Sec. Eduardo Año issued a Memo Circular directing all barangays in the Manila Bay area to conduct a weekly clean up every Saturday following the launch on January 27. This is in keeping with their mandate to ensure the protection of environment and sanitation of their respective areas.
