The Department of the Interior and Local Government Region III, together with the DILG Nueva Ecija Provincial Office, witnessed the inauguration of the newly constructed 240-meter storm drainage canal located along Science City of Muñoz Park in Barangay Catalanacan. The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Science City of Muñoz spearheaded the activity.

The project was funded through the FY 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance Incentive Fund (SGLGIF), an incentive program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) that supports priority initiatives of local government units that have earned the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

The newly completed storm drainage canal marks a significant step toward enhancing flood resilience in the community. This vital infrastructure project aims to improve water flow, reduce flood risks, and strengthen public safety, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. It reflects the LGU’s continuing commitment to developing sustainable and resilient infrastructure that protects homes, businesses, and public roads.

The ceremony was led by Mayor Baby Armi L. Alvarez and attended by DILG Region III officials headed by Regional Director Araceli A. San Jose, CESO III, and Assistant Regional Director Jay E. Timbreza, CESO IV, together with regional office personnel. Also present was Provincial Director Ofelio A. Tactac, Jr., CESO V, of the DILG Nueva Ecija Provincial Office, along with other provincial office personnel.

The inauguration of this SGLGIF-funded project highlights the LGU’s sustained efforts to build safer, more resilient, and disaster-ready communities for its constituents.
