Marking the 5th year of his administration, City Mayor Rolen C. Paulino delivered his State of the City Address (SOCA) on June 15 at Kong's Restaurant, Olongapo City.
The SOCA highlighted the achievements and various awards and recognition of the city, and the upcoming programs and projects under the leadership of Mayor Paulino.
Most Business Friendly LGU
To ease up doing businesses in the city, Mayor Paulino stressed that "Same Date Policy" must be observed, thus processing of business permit should not take a day or two. The city also pushes for the implementation of online business application and payment this year
He reported the increase of 80 small, medium to large businesses, and rise of more than 19 million in stock collections from 2016 to 2017. In addition, he mentioned that Olongapo received 2017 City Level Most Business Friendly Local Government Unit Award.
Road Network
Mayor Paulino showed the roads constructed under his administration. Since 2013 up to present the government has cemented roads in different areas of the city with a total of 21.3 kilometers
More than 600 scholars in Gordon College
Gordon College, City Government School, offered more than 600 scholarships to its students. The City government also provided bags and school supplies.
River-Dredging
Aside from the actual dredging operation and slope protection project, the city has implemented Making Riverth Posible(MRP), a citywide awareness campaign in the form of a yearly city wide cleanup participated by students, barangay, business establishment and residents. 28,450 volunteers joined in the 2017 MRP.
Emergency Response
Mayor Paulino presented the emergency vehicles purchased during his term. Recently the city government acquired a ladder truck which can be used for fire incidents involving buildings as high as 10 storeys. Patrol vehicles will be also given to barangays.
Most Peaceful City in Region III
Mayor Paulino stated that Olongapo is still the most peaceful city in Region III for 3 consecutive years.
Support to Sports
Olongapo City has an annual sports clinic program. More than 10,000 youth were trained starting year 2014.
He reported that in the recently concluded Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association games, among the 16 cities which entered the competition, Olongapo City notched the top, and ranked third in the overall streak including the provinces. He also asserted the achievements of the local athletes in the national and international games.
"Ang pera ng bayan ay laging sapat kapag ginamit sa dapat, ngunit laging kulang kapag ginamit ng manggugulang," cited Mayor Paulino.
