The DILG Nueva Ecija Personnel and Staff participated in the conduct of ASEAN Landmark Lighting Activity held in front of the City Hall of Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija. The city was among the 50 historical sites chosen by the Department of Foreign Affairs-ASEAN to commemorate the ASEAN's 50th Anniversary.

With the theme: "Under One Light, We Are One ASEAN", the cities of San Fernando and Angeles in Pampanga, Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija, Baler in Aurora, Mayantoc in Tarlac and Iba in Zambales, were among the LGUs participated in the simultaneous lighting of the ASEAN lantern which symbolizes a guiding light of the 10 regional member-states in pursuit of peace and security, prosperity, and socio-cultural development. The activity also aimed to raise the level of awareness of the public on the importance and benefits of building rapport and cooperation among the ASEAN community.

The ceremonial lighting of the ASEAN lantern was led by City Mayor Nestor L. Alvarez, Vice Mayor Argel R.Coronel and the Sangguniang Panlungsod Members. Moreover, CLGOO Rosie J. Sabiniano, Punong Barangays, Sangguniang Barangay Members, various National Government Agencies, and members from the Media participated in the activity.

Mayor Alvarez said that the city is fortunate to be a participant of the historic event which gave an opportunity to show the importance of strong relationship not only with other LGUs but also with other countries. Moreover, he said that it is a great privilege to be part of the landmark lighting of the ASEAN lantern which is a once in a lifetime event.
