PAMPANGA – Pursuant to President Duterte's campaign against illegal drugs, the municipality of Masantol was declared drug-free, the first LGU in Region 3 to be declared as such, on August 25, 2017 at the Benigno S. Aquino Hall, Capitol Compound.

Per the DDB Board Regulation No.3 series of 2017, fourteen (14) parameters are needed to be met by a barangay before having a drug-cleared status. After which, the Oversight Committee will then declare the LGU as drug-cleared. Per assessment, all the 26 barangays of Masantol successfully met these indicators which makes the municipality qualified to be declared drug-cleared.

In the event, the declaration was made by the Drug Clearing Oversight Committee headed by PDEA R3 Director Ismael G. Fajardo, Jr. as the Chairperson and DILG R3 Director Julie J. Daquioag as the Vice Chairperson. Representatives from other member agencies such as the DOH and PNP were also present.
All the twenty-six (26) Punong Barangays of Masantol were then awarded with Drug Cleared Certificates followed by Mayor Guintu who received the Drug Cleared marker for the municipality.

In his welcome remarks, Masantol Mayor Danilo S. Guintu expressed his gratitude to the whole LGU of Masantol, especially to the Punong Barangays, who worked untiringly to have a drug-cleared barangay. He said that because of this achievement, residents of their municipality are assured of a peaceful and orderly community.

"Ang Masantol ay isang malaya at mapayapang lugar kung saan nakakalakad ng ligtas ang bawat isa," Mayor Guintu said.

DILG RD Julie J. Daquioag, in her inspirational message, then highlighted the importance of having the right, timely, and updated information from the members of the community in order to win the fight against illegal drugs, crime, and corruption. She added that Masantol's feat will also serve as an inspiration and a challenge to all the other LGUs to do the same.

"Before crime prevention is everybody's business. Now, drug prevention is everybody's business," RD Daquioag said.
