DILG Region 3, represented by LGOO IV Glenn P. Cosio, joined DOLE, SSS and PAG-IBIG representatives in the advocacy of the Kasambahay Law or Republic Act 10361 otherwise known as “Domestic Workers Act” or “Batas Kasambahay” in a TV Guesting on July 15, 2013 at Pampanga GNN TV 44, “ORAS NA” hosted by Atty. Ogie Cayabyab.

When asked by Atty. Cayabyab on the role of DILG in the Kasambahay law, Mr. Cosio stated that the Department enjoins all Local Government Units to strictly observe and implement the provisions of said law.  He emphasized the important role of LGUs specifically the Punong Barangays who shall take lead in the conduct of the registration of all Kasambahay in their respective jurisdiction.  He further said that they should require every employer to register all domestic workers under his or her employment in the Kasambahay Masterlist or the Registry of Domestic Workers.   He also informed the Start-up Registration of domestic workers in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga which will be held on July 28, 2013.

Meanwhile, DOLE, SSS and PAG-IBIG representatives explained the coverage of the law and clarified issues on the process of payment on the arrears and contributions of employers.

Mr. Cosio, in his concluding statement during the interview, encouraged everyone to support the Kasambahay Law.  He expressed that a kasambahay must be also treated as a family member considering their services and concern accorded to every family they serve.

One of the salient provisions of the Kasambahay law states that a kasambahay should be covered by the Social Security System (SSS), Employees Compensation Commission (ECC), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and Pag-IBIG after one month of service to his employer.
