   In line with its mandate as Vice-Chair for Disaster Preparedness, the Department of the Interior and Local Government  Region 3 (DILG R3) conducted an Exit Conference on the result of the recently administered Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Management (CBDRM) survey on January 30, 2013 at Oxford Hotel, Clark Special Economic Zone, Angeles City.  It was participated in by the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers (LDRRMO) of the seven provinces and two Highly Urbanized Cities together with the DILG Provincial Directors and Point Persons. 

   The activity aims to assess performance gaps, links gaps to policy or program interventions and monitor improvements on disaster preparedness of LGUs.


   Invited to deliver a message for the activity was Assistant Director Dennis D. Villaseñor of the Bureau of Local Government Development (BLGD), DILG Central Office.  In his message, AD Villaseñor stressed the urgency of the LGUs’ preparedness in terms of the adverse effects of climate change such as extreme weather like intense drought or flooding.


   The result of the Seal of Disaster Preparedness (SDP) Assessment for the 94 priority LGUs were presented giving emphasis on the gaps identified. Likewise, the Consolidated Findings of the CBDRRM Profile and Checklist of the 3,102 barangays were presented. The result of the inventory of identified evacuation center was also discussed and it was agreed that said list will be validated by the Local DRRMOs to ensure the existence of evacuation centers reflected in the list.   The presentations were followed by a workshop which was aimed in identifying interventions and strategies that will address the gaps.


   RD Florida M. Dijan and ARD Abraham Pascua in both of their messages before the group emphasized the importance of LGUs readiness against natural calamities and building alliances among LGUs in terms of preparedness.
