The Department of the Interior and Local Government Region 3, thru its Regional and Field Offices, will lead in holding public consultations on Sangguniang Kabataan on August 19 to 22, 2013 in the provinces of Central Luzon namely, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales.

The activity will facilitate discussions on issues regarding the effectiveness of SK as a mechanism for promoting youth leadership and engagement.  It will also serve as venue to resolve two views that have been raised on the SK: one is to institute reforms to the SK structure and delivery systems, and the other is to abolish the SK.  Further, it aims to elicit region-specific views and generate broadly-based consensus on the categorical support or non-support to either reform or abolition of the SK and as consequence on whether or not to push through with the SK elections in October 2013.

Participants during the consultations will include provincial representatives and stakeholders from youth organizations/associations operating in the area, key political leaders, LGUs, LGU Leagues, Sanggunian Offices, oversight agencies and national government agencies involved in youth development such as DepEd, DSWD, NEDA, CSC, CHED and DBM, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

To this effect, DILG R-3 Regional Director Florida M. Dijan issued a Memorandum to all DILG Field Offices directing them to organize and take the lead in conducting the activity in their respective area of jurisdiction.
