Malolos   The Province of Bulacan celebrated the 116th Anniversary of the 1st Philippine Republic also known as “Malolos Republic” at the Barasoain Church, City of Malolos. The National Historical Institute Commission (NHIC), Chairman Ms. Maria Serena Diokno facilitated the celebration in coordination with the Provincial Government. Guest of Honor is no other than the Secretary of Interior and Local Government (SILG) Hon. Mar Roxas.


The Malolos Republic, founded on January 23, 1899 gave way to the very first Filipino government which was headed by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. The event was held in honor of the acknowledgement of the first ever constitutional government in Asia and Africa. The event was attended by the representatives from different sectors of the society including the DILG Family in the province, students, teachers, public officials and functionaries, and different civil society organizations, and representatives from other regions and provinces.


The program was divided into three parts, the 1st was the arrival of the SILG and immediately followed by the flag raising and singing of the National Anthem followed by the pledge of allegiance to the Philippine Flag. Afterwards, the Secretary together with Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando, Cong. Pancho of the 2nd District, Ms. Diokno, Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad, and other local officials offered flowers to the monument of Gen. Aguinaldo in giving honor for his contribution in the founding of the 1st Philippine Republic.


During the program proper, Hon. Mar Roxas delivered his speech and stressed the importance of 1st Philippine Republic and the contributions of the local officials in building a nation through “Daang Matuwid”.
