With the new set of Barangay Officials about to start their service following the May 2018 elections, an oath-taking ceremony for the newly-elected Punong Barangays in Central Luzon was conducted on June 12, 2018 at the ASEAN Convention Center, Angeles City, Pampanga.

Of the total 3,102 barangays in the region, 2,844 or 92% attended. Gracing this ceremony include high-ranking officials including Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Francis N. Tolentino, Presidential Spokesperson Harry L. Roque, Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence "Bong" T. Go, and DILG Executives led by DILG OIC-Secretary Eduardo M. Año, Usec. for Barangay Affairs Martin B. Diño, Usec. for Operations Epimaco V. Densing III, Asec. for Peace and Security Alexander L. Macario, Asec. for Administration and Finance Ester A. Aldana, Asec. for External and Legislative Affairs Ricojudge Janvier M. Echiverri, and Asec. for Mindanao and Special Concerns Marjorie N. Jalosjos, together with the DILG Management, Field Officers, and Staff led by RD Julie J. Daquioag and ARD Jay E. Timbreza. In addition, Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of Pampanga and some of the Provincial Governors and Mayors in the Region were present in the said activity.

Prior to the oath-taking ceremony, a dialogue on Barangay Good Governance was led by no less than the President himself, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. It served as an opportunity to recognize the significant role of PBs in the community and in the society. The dialogue featured the discussion of the government's fight against illegal drugs, criminality, corruption, and violent extremism among others.

"As you take your oath of office and swear in front of your family and supporters, and may I add, before God and people, I trust that you will uphold excellence, accountability, and transparency in your respective offices... Keep in mind that you are operating within the context of a nation. Let us set aside our personal interest as we selflessly and tirelessly fulfill the duties and responsibilities that come with our positions," PRRD said in his speech.

He highlighted that he is very eager to fulfill his campaign promises – to stop corruption, clear the country from illegal drugs, and do peace talks with state enemies particularly with the NPA and MILF.

"We owe it to the Filipino people to serve with humility and lead with integrity. Our fight against criminality, corruption, and illegal drugs continues...", he added.
