DILG Pampanga led a coordination meeting with representatives of the NCIP Pampanga, Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Pampanga and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office on May 4, 2022 to discuss matters concerning the representation of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) in qualified LGUs.

Among the topics discussed were the ongoing selection of the IP representatives in the identified barangays, issues within the IP communities, and clarification on the presence of an IP Mandatory Representative (IPMR) at the Provincial Government.

As part of the ways forward, it was agreed that a series of meetings and discussions will be led by the NCIP, together with the assistance of the PG Pampanga and DILG Pampanga to ensure that each IP community will be well-represented.

Per R.A. 8371 or the Indigenous Peoples Right Act (IPRA) of 1997, the state shall ensure that the ICCs/IPs shall be given mandatory representation in policy-making bodies and other local legislative councils.
