The National Nutrition Council conducted the 2015 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony on September 4, 2015 at the Heroes' Hall, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

 

The said activity was participated in by DOH Assistant Regional Director LouellaEstember, Philippine Red Cross Administrator Augusto Ocampo, Bulacan Governor Wilhelhimo C. Alvarado and Vice-Governor Daniel Fernando, LCEs from City Of San Fernando and Lubao, Pampanga,Dilasag, Aurora, and Calumpit, Bulacan, Provincial/City Nutrition Action Officers, District and City Nutrition Program Coordinators, and Nutrition Committee members of cities and provinces, and selected municipalities and barangays in the region.

Regional Director Florida M. Dijan delivered the activity's keynote speech wherein she congratulated the awardees for their much appreciated efforts in pursuing the recognition.She also stressed out that the Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Barangay Nutrition Committees are close to her heart because they are the ones who work and really care for the health welfare of the society.

City Mayor Edwin D. Santiago also delivered his message. He emphasized that health is wealth; once health is stricken, according to him, everything is helpless. Mayor Santiagothen mentioned that Filipinos were naturally healthy following the country's abundance of natural resources and that the people should not take such gift for granted.

The Consistent Regional Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance National Award was bagged by Paombong, Bulacan for the second year.On the one hand, Regional Green Banner Awards were bagged by the Province of Bulacan, City of Tarlac, and Municipality of Calumpit.Meanwhile, the team from Barangay Abar 1st, San Jose City, NuevaEcija was deemed as the Regional Outstanding Nutrition Scholars.

The Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars received a BNS trophy, certificate of recognition and cash prize worth Php 20,000.00, the second and third placers received certificates of recognition and cash prizesamounting toPhp 3,000.00 each.

The regional nutrition awards are given to cities and municipalities with outstanding performance on nutrition program implementation for CY 2014. The awarding ceremony is also a venue to distinguish Regional Outstanding Nutrition Scholars and Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Committees which have shown innovative strategies and good practices on nutrition program management.
