Following the 30% rehiring of contact tracers (CTs) guidelines from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Central Office, DILG Olongapo rehired 45 CTs to ensure the continuity of contact tracing efforts in Olongapo City for at least five months.

The 45 CTs were assessed on the criteria of attitude and professionalism, quality of work, dedication, teamwork and cooperation by the barangay health centers, City Health Office and DILG City Office. They will be redeployed in the 17 barangays of Olongapo City and shall serve from February 3, 2021 to June 30, 2021.

During the official turnover ceremony, DILG City Director Amada T. Dumagat congratulated and thanked the rehired CTs. Hoping for their stronger commitment, she said, "Sinuri kayo based sa inyong last performance, at kayo ang mga napili. Umaasa ako na mas magiging maigting pa ang inyong serbisyo para sa ating lungsod."

Stressing the importance of contact tracing, Olongapo City Mayor Rolen C. Paulino Jr. said that they tried to rehire 100% of Olongapo CTs, but city government funds were just really limited.

"Sinubukan talaga namin dagdagan o ibalik pa ang mga ibang contact tracer hanggang kahapon, pero kulang talaga ang budget, but I will provide uniform for you. Contact tracer talaga ang kailangan natin sa panahon ng pandemic kahit dumating pa ang vaccine.", he said.

The official turnover ceremony was conducted on February 3, 2021 at the Sangguniang Panglungsod Session Hall. City Health Officer Rodrick Bustamante was also present to witness the said activity.
