The Department of the Interior and Local Government Olongapo City in coordination with the City Government of Olongapo, conducted the 2019 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Exit Conference to present the result of the 2019 SGLG Assessment. This was held on January 24, 2020 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall.

LGOO V Fernando M. Erese, Jr. discussed in detail the SGLG Government Assessment Report (GAR) for Olongapo City before City Mayor Rolen C. Paulino, Jr., SGLG Focal Persons of concerned National Government Agencies and City Offices. The GAR contains the comprehensive list of SGLG Core Components and indicators that an LGU met or fell short during the 2019 SGLG.

Based on the GAR, Olongapo City is still yet to pass the 7 Governance Assessment Areas of the Seal - Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Peace and Order, Social Protection, Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, Environmental Management, and Tourism, Culture and Arts.

Afterwards, the participants, with the assistance of the City Planning and Development Office, formulated an action plan to specify series of activities to comply with the unmet SGLG indicators and prepare for the 2020 SGLG Assessment.

“The DILG will always assist you to achieve the SGLG,” said DILG City Director Amada T. Dumagat to the participants. She also encouraged the participants to plan ahead and consider the improvement of the other areas of governance since the SGLG is continuously upscaling the indicators of good local governance.

“I’m very optimistic that all the unmet indicators will be addressed,” said City Mayor Paulino. “However, at the end of the day, we are all public servants. SGLG is merely a guide on how we provide service. We could meet it or better go beyond (the minimum requirements of SGLG). I am confident that we will get it (SGLG).”
