Vice Mayor, Jose “JJS” Santiago, Jr., takes oath as the new Mayor of Bocaue on June 1, 2020, filling up the vacancy left by the late Mayor Eleanor “Joni” Villanueva-Tugna before Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando as witnessed by DILG Bulacan Provincial Director Darwin D. David.

Mayor Tugna died due to sepsis secondary to bacterial pneumonia on May 28.

The succession is based on the Local Government Code, where it is stated that the Vice Mayor shall be become the Mayor if a permanent vacancy occurs in the office of the Mayor.

Moreover, the highest ranking sanggunian member shall become the Vice Mayor.
