The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), this region, conducted a Regional Summit on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) for Elected Local Chief Executives on September 23—24, 2013 at Heroes Hall Mini-Convention Center, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
This was attended by around 500 officials from the 137 local government units in the region. Participants to the summit were Local Chief Executives, Provincial/City/Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (DRRMOs) and Regional DRRMC-3 members and DILG Regional and Field Officers.
The activity was aimed to impart the significant roles and responsibilities of local chief executives, especially those newly-minted, being chairpersons of their local disaster risk reduction and management councils and familiarize them on the different geographic plans, tools and information systems on disaster mitigation and climate change adaptation. The state of DRRM and the utilization of local DRRM fund sharing were also highlighted as well as sharing of best practices on DRRM and a Regional Awarding Ceremony on Gawad KALASAG for 2013.
Towards the end of the activity, the participants recited the “Panunumpa ng Lokal na Konseho ng DRRM” and declaration of commitment as a pledge of full support on disaster preparedness efforts in the region to include their firm resolve on the implementation of the local disaster risk reduction and management and climate change adaptation plans.
