   In line with its mandate under the Manila Bay Clean-Up, Rehabilitation and Preservation Project, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG R3) in collaboration with the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) and National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) facilitated a two-day Seminar-Workshop on Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) Sampling Plan at the Travelers Hotel and Event Center, Subic, Zambales last February 11-12, 2015

   The activity was participated by DILG field officers, Local PDCs, Local ENROs and IT Encoders from the following LGUs: Abucay, Hermosa, Morong, Olongapo City, Botolan, Cabangan, Candelaria, Castillejos, Iba, Masinloc, Palauig, San Antonio, San Felipe, San Narciso, Sta Cruz and Subic.

   LG-Monitoring and Evaluation Division Chief Lerrie S. Hernandez commenced the program by discussing the overview of the activity in which she emphasized the importance of this technical support in making the 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan of different municipalities within the region, in accordance with the Republic Act 9003, which will be approved by NSWMC for endorsement to Sanggunian and project implementation.

   DILG Regional Director Florida Dijan emphasized the essence of the active participation of the attendees during her message. “Naniniwala ako na ang resulta ng seminar na ito ay magsisilbing napakalaking tulong sa ating mga LGUs sa mga susunod na panahon at sa iba pang mga proyekto ng programa natin upang mapangalagaan ang ating kapaligiran at malinis ang Manila Bay,” she also added.

   The topics included were Solid Waste Assessment, Objectives, Importance and Output, and the Presentation of Methods and Instruments for Residential and Non-Residential Level discussed by Ms. Leizel D. Licay (DENR-EMB) and Ms. Belly C. Cabeso (NSWMC), respectively.

   The actual conduct of WACS sampling will be done in their respective LGUs which output will be presented in the Writeshop on Solid Waste Management Plan by May 2015.
