About 10,000 Bulakenyos, a record breaking number, joined the Takbo Para sa Kalikasan 2 on November 10, 2019 at Bulacan Sports Complex in support to the rehabilitation of the Manila Bay.

The event was organized by the Department which was authored by Assistant Secretary Marjorie Jalosjos. It was made possible through close coordination with the Provincial Government of Bulacan headed by Governor Daniel R. Fernando.

Guest speaker, Sen. Cynthia Villar, Chairperson, Senate Committees on Environment and Agriculture said that the activity is a good initiative to raise awareness among general public about protection of the environment. “We started the fight in Manila Bay but this is not the end of our fight for nature”, she stressed.

The Manila Bay program covers 13 cities and 81 municipalities in Region III.

DILG Region III Regional Director Julie J. Daquioag introduced the “Disiplina Muna” advocacy campaign of the Department and instilled the importance of discipline in maintaining and preserving our environment.

“Magsimula tayo sa ating sarili, follow the rules, follow the waste segregation,” she said. Likewise, Governor Daniel R. Fernando requested everyone to help the administration in cleaning up the Manila bay and stated that they will start apprehending people caught littering, “simulan natin ang kultura ng pangangalaga sa kalikasan”, he said.

Also gracing the event are Department of the Interior and Local Government ASec. Marjorie N. Jalosjos, Department of Environment and Natural Resources USec. Benny D. Antiporda, Presidential Communications Operations Office ASec. Ramon L. Cualoping III, Chairperson and CEO of National Youth Commission USec. Ryan R. Enriquez, and NYC Commissioner representing Luzon Laurence Anthony D. Diestro.

The fun run started with 10k-run at 5:00am, 5k-run at 5:30am, 3k-run at 6:00am.
