CITY OF BALANGA – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Bataan, Philippine National Police (PNP), LGUs and partner agencies formally launched the government's new drug war campaign called Buhay Ingatan, Droga'y Ayawan (BIDA) Program on Saturday morning, November 26, 2022.
Attendees from the DILG Bataan, PNP, BFP, BJMP, local officials, force multipliers and various organizations flocked to Brgy. Dona Francisca Covered Court to participate in the provincial and city launch of the Province of Bataan.
According to DILG Bataan Provincial Director Belina T. Herman, CESO V, the drug problem has to be addressed from the roots. "Ang problema ng droga ay parang puno. Kung gusto po nating tanggalin ang puno, ugatin po natin. Sugpuin po natin ang ugat.", PD Herman said during the activity.
"Nandiyan ang barangay at mga lokal na opisyal. Nandiyan ang pamilya at simbahan. Pagtulungan po natin down to the grassroots. Lahat ng actors ay dapat involved at sikapin po natin na ma-maintain na drug-cleared ang ating probinsya. Lahat po tayo dito ay pwedeng maging lider at bida", she added.
Also gracing the activity is PNP Provincial Director Rommel Velasco who delivered his Inspirational Message and Balanga City CLGOO Jomar Cruz who led the oath of the BIDA Unity Statement.
The BIDA program is an intensified and more holistic campaign against illegal drugs to reduce drug demand in the communities underscoring the PNP, PDEA, NBI & other agencies of government's continued intensity in the war against drugs within the framework of the law, with respect for human rights and complemented by rehabilitation and socioeconomic development.
The program also aims to reduce drug demand by empowering communities, enjoining them in the anti-illegal drugs activities, and raising public awareness of the ill effects of the use of illegal drugs.
Simultaneous activities were held all over the country where Quezon City Memorial Circle was the venue for the national launch, while regional launches were also held in Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro City and Davao City.
In the province of Bataan, all LGUs conducted their respective local launch anchored by various advocacy activities to encourage community participation in combating illegal drug use like zumba marathon, drug symposiums, alay lakad and motorcycle and biking events.
