Marking its third year of implementation, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Aurora, through its Local Governance Resource Center (LGRC) “Tambuli,” successfully conducted “Kabarangay Handa Ka Ba? PREPARE Episode 5 titled “Beyond Awareness: Sustaining Earthquake and Tsunami Readiness” on February 24, 2026 via Zoom.
With Aurora’s geographic exposure to seismic hazards and potential tsunami threats, Episode 5 served as a strategic follow-through to previous discussions on earthquake and tsunami preparedness, with particular emphasis on sustaining readiness and ensuring that preparedness measures are not only understood but consistently practiced at the household, community, and local government levels.

The activity gathered over 300 participants via Zoom and Facebook Live, composed of Municipal and Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Council members, barangay officials, and partner stakeholders across the province of Aurora.
Experts from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) provided in-depth discussions on earthquake and tsunami hazards, including their causes, high-risk areas, and early warning signs. Participants were equipped with practical household and community-level preparedness measures to sustain readiness.

In addition, participants were introduced to science-based PHIVOLCS tools, particularly the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS), a powerful tool that enables the local government units to simulate hazards and calculate impacts or estimate its potential damage.

Through this initiative, the DILG Aurora reinforces its commitment in sustaining preparedness efforts and strengthening the use of data-driven tools to build safer and more resilient communities. The PREPARE (Preparedness and Resiliency Enhancement: Promoting Accurate Response during Emergency) webinar series continues to serve as a vital platform to provide capacity development interventions and empower LGUs to enhance their capacity on Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Climate Change Adaptation and to mainstream DRR-CCA into local policies, plans, and systems.
